Importance of Stress Management

1.     Introduction

These are difficult times. People are losing work as the economy collapses, and the future is uncertain owing to the pandemic. In these conditions, stress is unavoidable. Working from home only adds to the difficulty.

“Stress management is critical for dealing with challenges and setbacks. It helps people bounce back from failure and forge ahead” (Harappa, 2020)

But first, let's look at how stress is defined. A 'physical, mental, or emotional component that creates physiological or mental tension' is a widely accepted definition of stress. External causes such as the environment and stressful situations, as well as internal variables such as disease, can cause it (Harappa, 2020).

2.     Symptoms of Stress

Irritability, headaches, panic attacks, acidity, heartburn, sweaty hands and feet, sleep problems, weariness, loss of interest, and growing terror are all common stress symptoms. Chronic stress can be harmful to one's mental and physical well-being.

Changes and challenges arise in life. So there is no way to avoid stress. A certain level of stress might be beneficial. Pre-examination tension, for example, motivates you to study hard and perform well in exams.

3.     Why Stress Management is so important for your health?

There is no use in saying that lowering stress in your daily life makes you happier and healthier. But what is it about stress that makes it such a strong indicator of total happiness? Let's look at how stress affects the body and mind, and how stress management may help you with everything from improving your mood to boosting your immune system and extending your life (Elaaz, 2020).

1.     How can we handle stress in healthy ways?

Stress has a critical function: it allows us to react swiftly to dangers and avert danger. Long-term stress, on the other hand, can cause mental health issues (such as anxiety and depression) as well as physical health issues. Increased stress levels, according to a substantial body of research, interfere with your ability to manage with physical sickness. While no one can completely escape stress, you can learn to manage it in healthy ways that can help you recover faster (Cleveland Clinic, 2022).

1.1 Eat and drink to optimize your health,

1.2 Exercise regularly.

1.3 Stop using tobacco and nicotine products.

1.4 Study and practice relaxation techniques.

1.5 Reduce triggers of stress.

1.6 Examine your values and live by them.

1.7 Assert yourself.

1.8 Set realistic goals and expectations.

1.9 Sell yourself to yourself.

4.     Conclusion

Stress management is becoming more prevalent, and managers must focus on minimizing it to the bare minimum. It also helps us look into how deep the roots of an organization can go, which in today's competitive environment might be the difference between a successful and unsuccessful business. Management interventions have the potential to alter the outcomes.
