Introduction
The word "performance appraisal" refers to the
process of evaluating an employee's job performance and overall contribution to
an organization on a regular basis. A performance assessment, also known as an
annual review, performance review or evaluation, or employee appraisal,
assesses an employee's abilities, accomplishments, and growth, or lack thereof
The systematic examination of employee performance and
understanding of a person's talents for future growth and development is known
as performance appraisal

Objectives of Performance Appraisal
Performance Appraisal can be
done with following objectives in mind:

maintain records in order to determine compensation packages, wage structure,
salaries raises, etc.
2.2 To
identify the strengths and weaknesses of employees to place right men on right
job.

maintain and assess the potential present in a person for further growth and
development.
2.4 To
provide a feedback to employees regarding their performance and related status.
2.5 To

serves as a basis for influencing working habits of the employees.

review and retain the promotional and other training programmes.

concerning employee promotions, transfers, and prizes.

Performance appraisal is used to motivate employees. If a
person's efficiency can be determined by evaluating their performance, the
targets can be met. This effectively inspires a worker to do a better job and
aids in future performance improvement

ReplyDeleteEmployee evaluation is a must. Evaluation time periods can vary from one organisation to another ( Yearly, Half year, Quarterly). It's better to have a system to conduct appraisals. By doing these evaluations on and rewarding employees will directly impact on the organisation performance.
